Activating Prior Knowledge
According to
cognitive psychologists, learners develop understandings through connections
they make among those things they know and have experienced, and those things

At the beginning of a unit or lesson,
teachers can help students activate their prior knowledge, or even build the
background for those students who may lack prior knowledge of a particular
content topic using the KWL chart or the revised KWL chart.
